Foot screening- Neurological and vascular assessments.
- Foot screening is essential in conditions such as diabetes to determine the level of risk to the foot, the management plan and frequency of reviews.
Nail surgery
- Usually performed for ingrown toenails but can include other nail conditions.
- Ingrown nails and many other conditions are treated under local anaesthesia.
Wound management
- Wounds (Ulcers) are commonly associated with complications of the diabetic foot but can also be related to factors such as poor footwear choices, trauma and heavy callus formation at points of high pressure. The Podiatrist works with other members of the health team in the management of wounds.
Essential foot care
- Early detection and management of foot conditions such as corns and calluses, bone deformities, thick and deformed nails, moisture between the toes and fissures (cracks) is very important in the prevention of complications.
Biomechanical assessment and the prescription and manufacture of chairside orthotics.
- Specialised dressings to protect against trauma.
- Referral for custom orthotics.
Footwear advice, fitting and adjustment
- Including referral for surgical footwear

- Foot health education and promotion form an integral part of all treatment provided by the Podiatry Service
