What Changes Can I Expect In My Body?

  • Lochia:

    • Is like a heavy period for the first twelve hours after delivery and then it gets lighter.

    • Is usually bright red in colour for the first few days, then changes to a pinky, brown colour

    • Can continue for four weeks after delivery

    • May be followed by a cream or white discharge that can continue for up to eight weeks after delivery

  • Pain on Passing Urine:

    • Can sting - especially if you had stitches  or there was brusing. Pouring warm water over the area when passing urine can reduce discomfort.

  • Breasts enlargement:

    • Caused an increase in blood supply to the breasts to permit milk production

    • Can be uncomfortable at first
