What Will Happen at your Antenatal Visit?
FIRST VISIT
Ideally the first visit should be before 12 weeks following your last menstrual period. This is the longest of your visits during pregnancy since much has to be done.
Some of the activities that usually occur include:

Discussion of issues such as:

Medical history of both you and your family

Diet and lifestyle
-
Available pregnancy care services

Maternity benefits and screening tests
-

Blood and urine tests, including screening for diabetes, anemia, hepatitis B, and rubella

Physical examination to ensure that both mother and baby are healthy, including:

Measurement of weight and height
-
Blood pressure (BP)
-

Identification of women who may need additional care
-
Prescribing of iron and multivitamin tablets
-
Tetanus vaccination (if needed)

FOLLOW-UP VISITS
​
The following checks may be made:

Your weight and blood pressure
-
Your urine
-
Your feet (for swelling)
-
Your tummy (for growth and position of the baby)
-
Your baby's heartbeat
-
Results of any blood or urine tests done at the previous visit
