History of the Polyclinic

Sir Winston Scott

Enmore Health Centre opened in February 1955 at Lower Collymore Rock.  The Medical Officer of Health was Dr. Edgar Cochrane.

The Ladymeade Polyclinic replaced the Enmore Health Centre and was officially opened on May 8th 1986.  

​

On December 5th 1986 it was renamed the Sir Winston Scott Polyclinic. 

​

Sir Winston Scott was a medical doctor, former Governor General and founder of the Woodside Memorial Clinic.  He also lectured in public health.

The Environmental Health department has the responsibility of the protection of the island’s health through a variety of preventative measures and strategies including: 

 

The Winston Scott Polyclinic is part of the system of publicly funded primary health care facilities in Barbados. The catchment area consists of both urban and suburban districts and encompasses the southern and eastern parts of St. Michael to the parish boundaries of Christ Church and St. George.
